Crane package for Transportes Crexell: five Liebherr cranes heading to Argentina

  • Transportes Crexell chooses the LTC 1050-3.1E as a low-CO2-emission alternative for end customers
  • First electric crane headed to construction sites in Argentina’s oil and gas industry
  • Liebherr’s high-quality products have impressed this Argentinian customer for nearly twenty years

The crane package for Transportes Crexell comprises two LTR 1220s, an LTR 1150, an LTM 1250-5.1 and an LTC 1050-3.1E. The 50-tonne compact crane is not only the first electric crane in the company’s fleet – with this new addition, the Argentinian logistics service provider is also playing a pioneering role in the electrification of construction sites in the country’s oil and gas industry. For around twenty years, the company has relied on the high quality of Liebherr cranes and its trusted partnership with the crane manufacturer based in Ehingen.

Transportes Crexell SA has expanded its crane fleet with five Liebherr machines. In addition to three telescopic crawler cranes and a 250-tonne mobile crane, the logistics service provider has ordered an LTC 1050-3.1E, making it the first Argentinian company to operate an electric crane in the oil and gas industry. The LTC 1050-3.1E features a conventional drive system plus an electric motor, allowing crane operations to be carried out electrically as an option. “We want to offer our customers a low-emission CO2-friendly alternative for their operations. We opted for the electric version of the 50-tonne crane because it allows hybrid operation, is compact, and has ideal lifting capacities for the planned jobs,” reports Eugenio Diaz, Commercial Director at Transportes Crexell.

The Argentinian company, headquartered in Nequén, is a pioneer in adopting cutting-edge technologies. “Since the electrification related to oil and gas industry services is still in an early stage, we want to help drive this development forward in Argentina with our expertise and equipment,” says Diaz, adding: “As the infrastructure for electric machines is not yet available in the industry on a mass scale, the compact and manoeuvrable 3-axle crane will primarily be used on urban construction sites and in customers’ depots.

Diverse crane portfolio for a wide range of applications

Transportes Crexell has been active in the oil and gas industry for almost 30 years. Today, the Argentinian company operates a fleet of 99 cranes, offering a wide variety of types to suit different conditions and deliver tailored solutions. Forty-one of the cranes in its fleet come from Liebherr, five more were added with the current order. “Liebherr has always been a cornerstone of our portfolio, enabling us to provide our customers with reliable, high-quality services. We value not only their high product quality, but also the trusting partnership that connects us with Liebherr,” says Diaz.

Transportes Crexell’s core business comprises – in addition to various services in the oil and gas industry – the transport of drilling rigs and crane services for this sector. The company also provides crane operations and transport services for the wind energy sector.
